Spoiled & Balanced Gradient-Echo Sequences

چکیده

1 Introduction Rapid imaging sequences are characterized by a fast train of excitation and gradient pulses. Between excitation pulses or within TR, the magnetization is not able to return to its thermal equilibrium. As a consequence, excitation pulses will influence both the remaining transversal and the remaining longitudinal magnetization. The steady-state magnetization of a multi pulse experiment is thus a mixture or superposition of different transversal and longitudinal states, and the acquired image amplitude becomes a complex function of the investigated tissue's relaxation properties.

Fast Gradient Echo Sequences Including Balanced SSFP

Many common magnetic resonance imaging sequences are classified either as spin echo or gradient echo techniques. Generally, a gradient echo occurs when spins are coherent regardless of their position within the sample. This occurs whenever the net gradient area since a previous echo is zero. In a spin echo, spins are coherent regardless of their resonance frequency [1]. Here we will focus on gr...

Spoiled & Balanced Gradient Echo Methods

Imaging with spoiled, balanced or nonbalanced gradient echo (GRE) refers to a class of fast imaging sequences that use a dynamic equilibrium or steady state signal for imaging. As originally introduced in 1958 by Carr (1) for NMR spectroscopy, a dynamic equilibrium or steadystate can be established by a train of radio-frequency (RF) excitation pulses interleaved by periods of ‘free precession’,...

Free-breathing myocardial T1 mapping using magnetization-prepared slice interleaved spoiled gradient echo imaging

Background Quantitative myocardial T1 mapping and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) show promise for non-invasive assessment of cardiomyopathies. Most available T1 mapping sequences use a single slice breath-hold acquisition with balanced steady state free precession (b-SSFP) readout [1]. However, b-SSFP readout is sensitive to B0 field inhomogeneity and is potentially T2 dependent [1]. In th...

Bloch Equation Simulations for bSSFP, Spin Echo, and SPGR Sequences When Using Hyperpolarized Carbon-13

Introduction: Pulse sequence design for the imaging of hyperpolarized nuclei is extremely important because of the short time span available to image due to the rapid decay to thermal equilibrium of hyperpolarized nuclei. Spoiled gradient echo sequences (SPGR) have been used for C spectroscopic imaging [1] because of their relative simplicity, robustness, and multi-spectral performance. However...

Gradient echo imaging.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) based on gradient echoes is used in a wide variety of imaging techniques and clinical applications. Gradient echo sequences form the basis for an essential group of imaging methods that find widespread use in clinical practice, particularly when fast imaging is important, as for example in cardiac MRI or contrast-enhanced MR angiography. However, the term "gradi...

Evaluation of a free-breathing myocardial T1 mapping using magnetization-prepared slice interleaved spoiled gradient echo imaging in patient

Background Quantitative myocardial T1 mapping shows promise for assessment of various cardiomyopathies. Most available sequences are generally acquired within a breath-hold using a balanced SSFP (bSSFP) imaging readout. However, the signal obtained from a bSSFP imaging readout is T2 dependent, sensitive to magnetization transfer and has increased susceptibility to the B0 field inhomogeneity lea...
